I really like this story about a little boy's courage. It's not true, but it is stilla positive story about putting others before yourself. Beautifully illustrated,and it introduces some Dutch culture to students.

this is a story of a boy who stops a dike from breaking and flooding the town.

Besides having beautiful Eric Carle illustrations, this book was a wonderful way to introduce Holland and a classic folktale to my Pre-K class. The book is hard to find, so when you do, grab it! It is a valuable addition to your home or school library.

I would call this book a classic. I read it and had it read to me as a small child. I should hope this book continues to be read to children of elementary ages.
